"Night" | Reflection by Barb Hedberg
“Yours is the day, Yours also is the night” - Psalm 74:16
I spent many early winter mornings waiting impatiently for the night to end, waiting for the light so I could walk the dog, let the chickens out and get to work. As I literally paced around the house it occurred to me the animals, I needed to tend weren’t at all concerned, they simply slept. Watching my own charges and the many animals that visit my yard I began to understand my impatience was ridiculous, not seeing the beauty of the predawn morning or understanding the rhythm of the days and nights.
The night can be long, the darkness unsettling, sometimes frightening but also can be beautiful, peaceful. While the night is dark there is also light in the moon and stars, and lights that guide us through roads and sidewalks. Serving as a reminder that God is still with us, that the light is not gone for good. I am learning to embrace the night finding time to reflect on the labors of the day and rest, feeling a sense of relief when the night settles in comforting me like a warm blanket. Reminding myself that the day is mine but so is the night, both equally important.
When God created the world, he brought the light but didn’t erase the all the darkness. He gave us the gift of both.
