Music at Trinity on the Green

“SING AND MAKE MUSIC FROM YOUR HEART TO THE LORD…”

EPHESIANS 5:19

From our historic organ to our three choirs to the numerous guest artists that perform here each year, Trinity is synonymous with excellence in music. Trinity’s community identity is deeply tied to the experience of making and sharing music with one another and with God.

Music at Trinity takes many forms. From the classic hymns of the 1982 Hymnal and classical anthems of our traditional services to the guitar songs of contemporary services and the meditative chant of Taizé, our musical expression is as varied as our parish. Whatever your aesthetic inclinations might be, rest assured: there is always a way for you to “make a joyful noise” at Trinity.

Choirs

Worship at Trinity is deepened in meaning through our commitment to the power of the human voice raised in praise. The Choir of Men & Boys, founded in 1885, is a living piece of history, one of the oldest and most storied choirs of the Anglican choral tradition in the United States, while the founding of the Choir of Adults & Girls in 2003 represents a historic event all its own: the extension of that tradition and of Trinity’s world-class musical education to all qualified children, regardless of gender. Our Parish Choir provides a musical home for singers of all ages and walks of life. All three choirs are supplemented by professional section leaders; click here to learn more about available positions and audition information.

Our three choirs together offer the opportunity for all to participate in the shared joy of song. At Trinity we believe that from elementary school to retirement and beyond, no one is too young or too old to start singing. Our singers are students, teachers, doctors, lawyers, actors, architects, professional musicians, and passionate enthusiasts. Trinity Chorister Program

Children’s treble voices, with their unique, ethereal timbre, are at the heart of the Anglican choir. As a result, these choirs produce some of the finest young musicians in the world. Emphasizing a comprehensive music education, practical musicianship skills, and healthy vocal technique, Trinity’s youth chorister program is no exception. Along with the unique skills that young singers acquire, Trinity provides regular international and regional touring opportunities and leadership experience for all program participants. Regardless of individual faith background (of which many are represented in the choirs), all choristers leave Trinity with a discipline and focus far beyond their years and friendships that last the test of time. Think the Chorister Program might be right for your child?

Pipe Organ

Any discussion of Trinity on the Green’s many charms would be incomplete without mention of Trinity’s pipe organ, a richly colorful and present instrument constructed in 1935 by the Aeolian-Skinner Organ Company. At once a jewel of organ-building history, an in-demand bench for recitalists, a training ground for organ scholars, and much more beside, the Trinity organ brings our community together and leads us in song.
