I Believe in Hope

I believe in Hope

because “it is hope, not despair, which makes successful revolutions,” as Peter Kropotkin taught us.

because the alternative feels like giving up, and the God I worship never once did nor did His son

because I have seen hearts change when I once thought they never would

because the Franciscan Rule tells us "Let all the brothers, however, preach by their deeds" and hope is indeed a muscle we can strengthen with intentional training…a necessary ingredient to preach the Gospel ‘without using words’ as the sentiment goes…

I believe in Hope because the Indigenous peoples on Turtle Island, and many others around the globe, have already survived their own Apocalypse and continue to persevere against all odds

I believe in Hope because there is nothing so broken that God cannot fix it, not even our hearts

I believe in Hope because

“It is our duty to fight for our freedom.

It is our duty to win.

We must love each other and support each other.

We have nothing to lose but our chains,” as Assata Shakur taught us.

I believe in Hope because it makes fascists angry and serves as a reminder that there has never been any empire, nor will there ever be any in the future, that did not fall…never one that was not subject to God’s will above man’s.
