I Believe Because Faith Sets Me Free
Lots of ink has flown to tell people how to believe, what to believe, and when to judge people who do not believe. This politicization of faith or belief rarely highlights the joy of believing. Going back to the biblical words for believing might be helpful: they also mean to entrust or to cling. And while we can cling to a good number of possibly unhealthy things, clinging to hope and love can be such a celebration. More, believing in or clinging to the love of God is liberating. It puts the rest in perspective. By clinging to Love and Life, our faith detaches us from oppressive submissions. As Paul says: It is for freedom that Christ sets us free (Gal 5:1). Believing in God’s love first, creates the freedom, joy to be, that “joie de vivre”.
