This year we revive our Lenten sermon series with five guest preachers who will reflect on our Lenten theme, “treasure in clay jars.” Our guests will also join us at coffee hour for continued conversation.
Biography
Lisa Levy currently works in downtown New Haven as the Outreach Coordinator at both Trinity Church on the Green and Loaves & Fishes, the oldest and largest food pantry and clothing closet in the city. In her capacity at Trinity, she coordinates Chapel on the Green, an outdoor worship service that centers the experiences of unhoused members of the community; at Loaves & Fishes, she co-manages the distribution of groceries to over 500 folks every week. For the past twelve years, Lisa has worked in various roles with people experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, and substance use issues. A graduate of Yale Divinity School, she has spent time as a chaplain at the Connecticut Mental Health Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital’s psychiatric campus, and Yale New-Haven Hospital. She also worked as a Spiritual Support Coordinator at a homeless services agency in downtown Houston, where she acted as a chaplain to the clients, served as a liaison to the agency’s Council of Congregations, and coordinated Coming Home, a restorative community program that brought together housed and unhoused people for a shared meal, a trauma-informed therapeutic support group, and one-on-one mentorship.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Lisa loves living in Hamden, Connecticut, where she resides with her three rescue dogs: Eric, Hank, and Steve. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Syracuse University Creative Writing Program, and she is currently at work on a collection of personal essays that explore loneliness, faith, vocation, and homelessness.
