"Answer" | Reflection by Duo Dickinson

It was 25 years ago. My office refused the Ear Bud silence of so many studios, everyone literally plugged into their own heads. It was a time of Compact Disks, and our CD player had 6 CD’s on a revolving changer – one for each of us.

And we listened to the Bare Naked Ladies:

“And if you call
I will answer
And if you fall
I’ll pick you up
And if you court this disaster
I’ll point you home”

There can be no answer if there is no call. When we turn the Magic 8 Ball upside down and wait for the written response to float up to its port for us to see, we have asked a question. When we open a fortune cookie we await an answer to what our reality is or will be. It’s fun.

But “Call and Answer” by the Bare Naked Ladies is a song about conflict and resolution, about humans dealing with humans, rather than 8 Balls or Cookies.

That is why Jesus has been given to us. A human. Killed by other humans. God whose life does not end. The human still called “My God, my God why hast thou forsaken me?” Even though he was God.

And He was answered: Easter.
