Lent Sermon Series | The Rev. Bruce D. O'Neill

This year we revive our Lenten sermon series with five guest preachers who will reflect on our Lenten theme, “treasure in clay jars.” Our guests will also join us at coffee hour for continued conversation.

Biography

A lifelong resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, The Rev. Bruce Douglas O’Neill is the longest serving Rector of St. Clement's Episcopal Church in Berkeley, a position he has held since 1997. Bruce is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with degrees in English and Social Welfare, and has a Masters of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary. 

Bruce chaired the Personnel Practices Committee for the Diocese of California from 2003 to 2019, and has served on the board of directors of Episcopal Charities, Stanford Canterbury and Berkeley Canterbury (past board president). From 1998 to 2003, he chaired the Department of Campus Ministry for the Diocese of California, and is a past board member and president of the Board of the Berkeley Food and Housing Project. Bruce has taught as an Adjunct Faculty Member at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific. In his spare time, Bruce enjoys tennis, history, watching the Oakland Athletics, and spending time with his wife of 28 years, Michele and their adult son, Jeremy.
